A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING CHENISE DANIELLE LYLES OF JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI, FOR HER ACADEMIC AND CIVIC ACHIEVEMENTS.
WHEREAS, Chenise Danielle Lyles of Jackson, Mississippi, is the beautiful and talented daughter of Eunice Lyles Harris, Charles L. Lyles (deceased) and Fletcher Harris (stepfather), the niece of Senator Barbara Martin Blackmon and Representative Edward Blackmon, Jr., and the cousin of Senator Willie Simmons; and
WHEREAS, her impressive academic and leadership achievements include the following: Class Valedictorian, GPA 4.12; Coca-Cola Scholarship, Semi-finalist, 1999; Awarded Full Academic Scholarship, Xavier University of Louisiana; Student Body Vice-President, 1998; Nominated for the University of Mississippi Leadership Institute, 1998; Nominated for the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine, 1998; Attended Xavier University's Soar I (Biology Summer Program), 1998; Youth Leadership Jackson, 1998; Jackson Urban League, Inc. "Doing the Right Thing Award," 1997; Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Club, 1997; National Macy Scholar, 1997; Kodak Young Leaders Award, 1997; Who's Who Among American High School Students, 1997; Howard Hughes Outstanding Achievement in Chemistry, 1997; National Honor Society Inductee, 1997; Highest Achiever in English and Math, 1997; Howard Hughes Computer Camp, 1996; Class Rank of Number One, 1995-Present; "Making All A's," 1985-Present; United National Leadership and Service Award Winner, 1995; Outstanding Communication Skills, 1994-1995; National History and Government Award, 1994; Vickers Fluid Power Outstanding Achievement in Science and Math, 1994; and Computer Whiz Kid Award, 1993; and
WHEREAS, her community service and extra-curricular achievements include the following: "Clean-Up Crew" for City of Ridgeland, Mississippi, 1998; Outstanding Community Service for United Way, 1997; Volunteer for Cottage Grove Nursing Home, 1996-1997; "Best Volunteer" for Mother Goose Day Care Center, 1995; Member of Future Business Leaders of America; Zeta Phi Beta "Miss Debutante," 1998-1999, succeeded by her first cousin, Jasmine Michelle Martin, Zeta Phi Beta "Miss Debutante," 1998-1999; Gayfer Girl of Jackson, 1997-1998; A.K.A. Sorority "Miss Calendar Girl," 1997; Junior Class Representative, 1997; Baseball Statistician, 1998; Sophomore Class President, 1996; Participation in Softball, Soccer and Tennis, 1995-1998; Young Inventors Award, 1995; and 1st Place Chess Tournament, 1994; and
WHEREAS, Chenise represents the spirit and character which exemplifies the very best and brightest in Mississippi's youth, and she has brought honor on her city, school and state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Chenise Danielle Lyles of Jackson, Mississippi, for her considerable academic and civic achievements, and extend to her the best wishes of the Legislature on her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Chenise Lyles and her family, and be made available to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
